Use the following guide to create textures you can use in your projects. Save each texture file to your files. Carefully each step in the process.

Marble
Create a 5 x 5 inch file, resolution 72, mode rgb, foreground and background colors white and black.
Fill with white, Go to select all, go to filter, render, difference clouds.

Apply the filter a total of three times
Go to Filter, Stylize, Find edges.

Go to Image, Adjust, invert

Go to Image, Adjust, Levels, here you will play with the three sliders under the little hill of black lines. Be sure you have the Preview checked. Play with the image until you have achieved the desired "marble" effect.

Colorize your image using the Image, Adjust, Color Balance or Varriations. Save the file.


Rough Stone Texture

Create a rough stone texure.
Create a 5 x 5 inch file, resolution 72, mode rgb, foreground and background colors white and black. Make the contents white.


Go to filter, noise, add noise to create a static effect, make the amount 99 and the distribution Gaussian.

Go to Filter, blur, gaussian blur and make the radius 2.0.

Go to Image Adjust, desaturate.

Go to Filter, Stylize, Emboss, Check the preview and play with the settings until your image looks like stone.


Wood Texture

Create a 5 x 5 inch file, resolution 72, mode rgb, Make black the foreground and white the backgroundk.

go to select all.

Apply the difference clouds filter three times. (filter, render ,difference clouds)

Go to Filter, distort, wave and fill in the following numbers in the boxes:

Number of generators:30

Wavelength: min. 50 and max. 250

Amplitude: 10 and 999

Scale: horiz: 100 and Vert 1
Undefined Areas: Wrap Around

Colorize the wood if you like.


Instant Water Texture

Open a new document, 72 res, rgb, transparent.

Create a new layer, press the letter "d" to change the foreground and background colors to black and white.

Fill the layer with black by pressing alt/backspace.

Go to filter/ render / difference clouds.

Go to filter choose sketch/ chrome and se the detail to 4, smoothness to 7 and click ok.

You can use thes as your water texture or , for a more "liquidy" effect, press control f to run this same filter again with the same settings.

Go to image adjust / hue saturation, check the colorize box and move the hue slider to around 209 and the saturation to around 50 and click ok. You should have a cool pool water looking texture, You can Step Backward and change any setting you wish to customize your water.


Instant Star Field

You will have to understand gradients in order to complete this assignment.

Open a new document with the same settings as Instant Water Texture>p> Press the letter "d" to set the foreground and background colors, click on the background color swatch and choose custom formt the menu on the right, choose Pantone 279 from the choice boxe on the left, click ok.

Press the letter g to switch to the gradient tool, drag a foreground to background gradient fromt he top to the bottom.

Make a new layer and fill it with black, go to filter and noise, add noise. Enter 12 for the amount and us eth gaussian and monochromatic options, click ok. Next go to the filter/ blur/ gaussian blur, choose 1 for the radius and click ok. Go to Image adjust/ threshold.

To see the stars slide the slider slowly to the left and the stars will begin to appear; drag furthur for more stars.

Next go to filter/ rendrer and choose Lens Flare, click ok. lastly , change the blend mode of this layer to screen.
